TERMS OF AGREEMENT
There is a $50 non-refundable fee for the assessment test. The medical interpreter course cost is $950; full payment is due before getting access to the e-learn material unless you have made other arrangements in advance with MedTalk Training. You will
receive an email w access to the course immediately after submitting payment through our website. You can pay with debit or credit card or with PayPal.
Our commitment to you:
- MedTalk Training is a flexible, self-paced program that allows you to access the educational material on your own time.
- The student will have access to the instructor via text, Skype, email or telephone call for immediate needs.
- A minimum of 1 hour of one on one coaching and practice will be scheduled in Part 1 (medical terminology) at no extra charge (at a date and time mutually agreed upon). Another 1 hour coaching session will be scheduled for Part 2 of the program.
- In order to be successful and be prepared for the final exam we recommend that you commit to:
- Study the medical terminology after researching the definitions and to follow the recommendations (listed in the modules) when you are submitting the recorded assignments.
- Login at lease of 3 hours per week and complete the course in 20 weeks from the day you register for the medical interpreter course. If you have not completed the course in 20 weeks a one month extension may be granted at instructor’s discretion and you
will be charged a $100 fee.
- MedTalk Training does not guarantee you will receive a certificate of completion after finishing the course. You will need to pass the final written exam with a score of 70% or higher and the oral exam with 5 major deductions or less.
- Oral exam is scheduled at a time that is convenient for instructor and student. Deductions are made when there’s a change, ommisions or additions in the message, or when you fail to follow the roles of the interpreter, standards of practice or violate the
code of ethics.
- You will have 3 opportunities to take the oral and/or written exam; you will receive written detailed feedback with the scores within 24 hours with recommendations, which you will need to address before you schedule a re-take 2 weeks after.
- There is no additional cost for the 1st re-take, a $50 fee will be charged if student needs to take it a 3rd time. If you fail a 3rd time you will receive a document stating you participated in the 60 hour medical interpreter
course but did not pass the final exam(s).
- If you pass both tests a 60 hour certificate of completion will be emailed to you within 48 hours and the original certificate will be mailed via USPS in 5-7 business days.
Medtalk Training is licensed by the New Hampshire Department of Education as a post-secondary education program defined in RSA 188-G:1-10
License # MEWI – 161.

Duration of this Course is 60 content hours. Our Course follows the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) guidelines and the recommendations of National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).

Hybrid Sessions
The instructor is available on demand (upon previous mutual agreement) in addition to the regular meeting times to do live practices and oral tests. We provide audio feedback to address pronunciation, word choice and to encourage proper interpretation technique.
Standards
We follow the National Standards for Healthcare Interpreter Training Programs as specified by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care. Our Program teaches the Code of Ethics, Roles of the Interpreter and Standards of Practice following the International
Medical Interpreters Association.
OBJECTIVES
- Articulate the difference between “Interpretation” and “translation” as well as quote the three modes of interpretation used in health care.
- Know the 3 different modes of interpretation used in health care.
- Interpret using consecutive mode with transparency, completeness and accuracy.
- Perform a sight translation.
- Use techniques to improve accuracy like memorization, visualization and note-taking.
- Identify the Roles of the Interpreter.
- Follow Code of Ethics of the Interpreter
- Demonstrate Standards of Practice of the Interpreter
- Recognize and follow laws, rules and regulations that affect interpreters.
- Be knowledgeable on HIPAA and follow guidelines.
- Explain the consequences of inaccurate interpreting (law suits and liability)
Course Curriculum
Each module listed below contains a comprehensive terminology
in English and Spanish. Students are able to hear a recording for each term in both languages to emphasize proper pronunciation.
Modules contain interactive match word quizzes that are graded at the end of each module. In addition, each module has practice recorded sentences for the student to listen and to interprete in a recorded message to the instructor. The instructor provides
recorded feedback to each student and provide one-on-one coaching as needed or requested by the student.
